Comparing Cultures with the Turkish Ambassador: Turkey & Estonia
On April 5th, Mrs. Başak Türkoğlu, the Turkish Ambassador, honored our school with a visit, providing a unique opportunity for our 7th graders. During her visit, the students had a chance to ask her questions and learn more about Turkey from her perspective.
What is the best food in Turkey? It’s unfair to give just one answer, but for me, the best one is artichoke cooked in olive oil.
Is Turkey an expensive country? It has become expensive in the last couple of years as the Turkish Lira is changing.
What do you like the most about Turkey? The most important thing that I like and appreciate is friendship.
Which city is the most popular in Turkey? Istanbul, because it’s in the best financial state and lots of tourists visit it often.
What do you like the most about Estonia? I like the nature and the space, the respect that people have towards each other and nature.
What are your favorite traditions in Estonia and Turkey? I really like the commemoration days in Estonia and Turkey because they show respect for what has been achieved so far.
What cities have you visited in Estonia? I have visited many cities in Estonia. I haven’t had a chance to visit Narva and Viljandi yet, but I will visit those as well.
What are the biggest differences between Estonia and Turkey that you have noticed? Turkish people are very loud, but in Estonia, people are very calm and respect each other’s space.
What foods do you like in Estonia? I mostly like the goat cheese and goat milk products.
